Budget Cooking For a Crowd - Feeding Many For Less

Cooking for a crowd can be a lot of work. Not to mention expensive. If you are looking for some ideas on budget cooking for a crowd then you are in the right place. A crowd could be a large family or a group of people coming over for a party. No matter what the reason for cooking for a crowd, you need ideas that will help you spend less money. Budget cooking for a crowd is possible.

Setting a budget is the first thing you need to do. You will need to know exactly how much money you have to spend so you don't go overboard. Planning your meals in advance will help. Another way is to plan your meals around the coupons you have and what is on sale at the store.

Budget cooking for a crowd can be much more cost effective than you may think. There are a number of ways to make good food for less.

Budget Cooking For a Crowd - Feeding Many For Less

Some of these tips will depend on the type of event you are having, so you will have to decide if they will work for what you are hosting.

o Guests can contribute too

One way to do budget cooking for a crowd is to have your guests bring a dish with them. You could ask each person to bring whatever they want or you can ask them to bring something specific. Usually these items would be either drinks, a salad or a dessert.

o BBQ is for ideal for the Budget Conscious

If it's summer time out you could have a BBQ rather than a fancy sit-down meal inside. Serving hamburgers and hot dogs are less expensive than steaks or seafood., so if you want to do budget cooking for a crowd its essential that you bear that in mind. People love the smell of the BBQ and the food is wonderful and not something you get every day. You might check with the butcher block in your store to see if they offer discounts for larger quantities of meat purchased.

o Eliminate Catering

Preparing the food yourself instead of having it catered in will mean huge savings. At times people use a catering service because it's easier and takes less time, but the cost involved can be hard on your pocket book.

o Prepare Inexpensive Easy To Fix Family meals

Serving your family a huge pot of spaghetti or lasagna can be less expensive than fish or steak. You can serve garlic bread and a vegetable and the cost of the meal is under depending on the number of people you are serving. You can also serve hamburgers and potato salad with corn on the cob and will be spending less as well.

Budget cooking for a crowd doesn't mean you have to sacrifice taste, quality or quantity. Planning your meal and not being afraid to ask for help is a great way to stay within your budget and have a nice meal. When it comes to your family if you explain why you need to budget and spend less, they will understand.

By now you should be convinced that budget cooking for a crowd is a good way to save money and to make your dollars go farther when entertaining a crowd.

Video games are very popular no matter what age that you are. Online video gaming sites are also becoming more in demand as the demand grows for gaming online. Mindcraft games are fun to play and engage the mind. You can find fun and good games here. Some examples of this would be 3D Swat, 2 D Knockout and 1942: Battles in the Sky. These games are just a small example of what is available on this particular site. With 36 categories available, there is something for everyone.

Some of these Mindcraft games also have a high cuteness factor to them. Others have a very realistic factor in them. There is a great deal of choice in games here that you can be playing on this site for hours on end. The games themselves are quick loading and the music and graphics are comparable with other video games. This is another site that has free games for you to play. The instructions are clear and the games keep you moving with fast paced action. Kids can play games on this particular site with no problem.
No matter what you like to do, you can find what you are looking for here. It would be impossible to list all the games available. It is not hard to understand why these sites would be so popular. No matter what your skill level or interest, you can find games here that can keep you busy.

You can see by the titles that these would mostly be video games for kids. However, some adults may get a kick out of playing these games too. The games load quickly and they can be fun to play online. This is a site that is free to play games, unlike other sites that ask for a subscription. Some adults may find the games amusing as well.

Mindcraft Games for All

The site is well laid out and easy to find the games that are being looked for. Many different choices are in this site. This can make it hard to choose just one game to play. So it is up to the child as to what game he or she will play. Nothing is downloaded onto the computer of the parent or adult. These games are referred to as "browser games" meaning that they play in the browser window. Depending on your browser speed these can load slowly or quickly. This is an ideal site for a child to spend playing online video games. Take a look at this for yourself. You can see the difference.

Allowing kids of all ages to play on this site can be entertaining and fun. Adults also can enjoy some of these games. While this site is directed towards little ones, there is no reason why an adult cannot join in the fun. With the different games available, skills such as eye-hand coordination, thinking skills and other skills can be developed by playing games on this site. It is little wonder that sites like these are becoming more popular. Not everyone can afford a subscription to gaming sites, so this is a better alternative for those in this situation.

The Inspiring, Uplifting and Entertaining Sermons of Joel Osteen - Religion Lite With a Flair

Every Sunday there are many religious programs to choose from on network TV, yet one stood out as I flipped through the channels. Stopping at Joel Osteen's program, I casually watched it, and got hooked by the end of the program. The positivity and uplifting messages given by this talented pastor of Lakewood Church is addicting.

Having basic Christian values but being limited in my knowledge of religion in general, I haven't spent much time in church as an adult. Being a workaholic, with limited time and energy, by the end of the week I am mentally and physically worn out. Watching Joel Osteen on television on Sunday morning is my way of getting spiritually recharged for the week ahead. If a sermon is going to catch my attention, it has spiritual meaning, yet isn't too overly preachy or heavy. For many, like me, who believe in God but aren't knowledgeable in quoting scripture or other Biblical information, sermons that teach us the basics while being upbeat are powerful and welcomed.

When you turn on the TV today, there is so much pain and sadness that it can wear on you after awhile. How glad I am to have a show to watch that isn't going to depress me. Having major depression, I am very careful of what I watch, and limit my exposure to overly stressful subjects out of necessity. Life has improved, the more understanding I have of my condition, but it has been a lot of hard work. I am an avid news watcher, and as everyone knows, it usually is full of death and crime. To counteract my exposure to less-than-happy subjects, I record Joel Osteen's sermons and watch them to give me a boost during the week. This man, whom I have never met, has helped me to maintain a better mood with his speeches on self-esteem, finding peace, decision-making, assertiveness, and more. Messages that bring hope, faith and self-improvement are needed by everyone. This is why Joel Osteen's following is huge. He has a converted basketball stadium for a church, which is always packed every Sunday. And, when he travels to different cities, his locations sell out frequently.

The Inspiring, Uplifting and Entertaining Sermons of Joel Osteen - Religion Lite With a Flair

Being a skeptic naturally, it is refreshing to me to find a weekly dose of peace in the form of a half-hour TV show. When you go to his site, you can see the entire sermon, for free. If you like your religion "lite" then try watching this talented pastor's show. Joel Osteen is a savvy, well-spoken preacher with a gift of getting to the point and making scripture understandable to those of us who aren't skilled in knowing it. It is clear to me that Mr.Osteen is making the world a better place, one uplifting sermon at a time.

Famous British Authors - Ten Best-Loved

Which famous British authors made it to The Big Read? A survey conducted in 2003 by the BBC to reveal the UK's best-loved book? What novels are they famous for? And which of their books were in the Top 200 list?

There are a few things to consider, though, if you want to enjoy reading the novels written by the best-loved, famous British authors. First, determine where your interests lie. You may be interested in contemporary novelists, or perhaps you are more intrigued by classic writers? Works of English literature originating prior to World War II is considered by most to be classical in nature, whereas novels written during or after that war could be called contemporary fiction. An example of a classic writer would be Chaucer and Ernest Hemingway is a contemporary.

Another consideration might be which genres interest you most. Loosely defined these fall into ten categories: action-adventure, crime, detective, fantasy, horror, mystery, romance, science fiction, thriller or western. Depending on what you find entertaining and that which grabs your attention, this can be an important factor when contemplating reading novels by an author you are as yet unfamiliar with.

Famous British Authors - Ten Best-Loved

You also need to understand the universal themes associated with the writing of fictional work; they include Imagination, Identity, Conflict, Love, Humour, Belonging, Time, Faith and Place. Be aware that many novels revolve around one or more of these themes and that several themes can be the focus of just one book. One author should not be thought of as the quintessential romanticist, humourist, or even imaginative writer as each author often considers a combination of themes and complex ideas when creating a novel so consider exploring these concepts before deciding to 'pigeon-hole' specific writers with a particular theme or genre.

Here are ten randomly selected authors from the books nominated in The Big Read.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien - The winner was indubitably Lord of the Rings by this fantasy writer. Tolkien's The Hobbit also made the Top 100. Other works of Tolkien include The Silmarillion.
Terry Pratchett - Britain's comic fantasy author had fourteen of his titles in that list: Mort, Good Omens, Guards! Guards! Night Watch, The Colour of Magic, Small Gods, Reaper Man, Wyrd Sisters, Hogfather, Men At Arms, Thief of Time, The Fifth Elephant, The Truth and Witches Abroad.
Joanne K. Rowling - A fantasy writer of Harry Potter fame was another novelist with four titles making the grade: Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets and Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban.
Jacqueline Wilson - Another novelist not to be ignored, a writer of children's books; also with fourteen titles of distinction: The Story of Tracy Beaker, Double Act, Vicky Angel, Girls In Love, The Illustrated Mum, The Dare Game, Bad Girls, Lola Rose, Girls In Tears, Sleepovers, Secrets, Girls Out Late, Dustbin Baby and The Suitcase Kid. Wilson's novels are typically realistic stories about modern British children facing problems in their daily lives. In 2005 this writer was announced as the Children's Laureate.
Charlotte Bront - Three of the five Bront sisters became romance writers. Charlotte's Jane Eyre made the Top 21.
Emily Bront - Emily's Wuthering Heights also made the Top 21 but alas Anne's Agnes Grey missed the boat! For a family plagued with illness these sisters were remarkably successful.

Charles Dickens - These seven Dickens' masterpieces were given a 'thumbs up!' Great Expectations, David Copperfield, A Christmas Carol, A Tale Of Two Cities, Bleak House, The Pickwick Papers and Oliver Twist. Amongst other works he is remembered also for two of his other major contributions to literature: The Life and Adventures of Nicolas Nickleby and The Old Curiosity Shop. Besides Master Twist the likes of such characters as Ebenezer Scrooge, Fagin, Mrs. Gamp, Charles Darnay, Micawber, Abel Magwitch, Pecksniff, Miss Havisham and Wackford Squeers will doubtless live on forever through his books.
Lewis Carroll - Carroll's Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, made it to the Top 100, inspired by a young girl named Alice Liddell, is among the books recommended. Other works from Carroll include Through The Looking-Glass and Jabberwocky.
Robert Louis Stevenson - With the exception of this Scotsman (and South African born J.R.R. Tolkien), all other novelists mentioned here were English. Stevenson's Treasure Island was naturally considered one the best-loved books written by a British author. His other famous books include Kidnapped, The Body Snatcher and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Jane Austen - Austen's Pride and Prejudice made it to the Top 21. Other significant romantic fiction novels written by Austen include Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park and Emma.

The writers spoken of here are only a few of the best-loved famous British authors but there are many more besides these.

Entertaining Children on Airplanes

Entertaining children on an airplane gets easier as they age. However, in the early years, if you're fortunate enough to travel with your kids, flying with them can be a hassle and a nightmare. In order to maintain your sanity (and that of those around you), you will need to figure out what makes your child happy and use that to keep them entertained.

Every child is different. So it's important to realize that as you read tips on on methods to calm your child, entertain your child, or travel with your child, take them for what they are worth - suggestions. Some kids are easy-going; some are high-strung; some kids are content with a book while some have to stay active. The common denominator amongst them is that it takes much more effort on their part to regulate themselves. And that's where you as a parent come in.

There are many ways you can entertain your child on a plane.

Entertaining Children on Airplanes

Pack their favorite storybooks and take time to read with them. Use play-doh as a form of entertainment and also stress relief if your child has anxiety flying. Purchase an appropriate in-flight movie for them or better yet, travel with a portable DVD player and their favorite flicks. Play cards with them. Nowadays, many families have either an Itouch or an Ipad - allow your child full and total access. Get up and walk down the aisle with them so that they can stretch their legs and see other parts of the plane. Ask the flight attendants to show them the galley area of the plane or explain to them what they do. If traveling with an infant, be sure to have enough milk - sleep and eating are their main sources of entertainment. Walk up and down the aisle with your infant child to help keep them soothed. Be sure to have enough snacks on hand to help keep your child entertained - don't be surprised that food can be a good source of entertainment for your child. Bring their handheld video game system, the music player, the automated book or whatever digital media you have that they enjoy.

Remember that your child's entertainment on the plane is designed for their comfort in flying as well as yours and not the other passengers around you. Should none of these suggestions work to keep your little one entertained or comfortable, keep it simple and do whatever works for your child.
