Mental Math Practice Worksheets

Today, we all know the importance of learning and marveling at mathematics. And every time we visit our children's schools we see Chinese and Indian students marveling at SATs. And we all know why they succeed in Engineering and Medical fields. Answer is quite simple, they are good at Math. But why are they so good? How did they study Math that makes them so good at that one arduous subject?

When we go to teacher meetings we are told by the teachers, to marvel at Math one must practice, practice and practice. But what if the child loses interest in practicing math? We all have had our share of experiencing the monotonous boring task of memorizing times tables. And after so many years, the same is repeated by the teachers everywhere, except, Asia. What do these Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Indians, etc.) do to make their children so good with Mathematics? Answer is quite simple, practice, practice & practice. But what is it that those students actually practice?

Lately, Abacus math has taken some of these Asian nations by storm. Abacus is a Latin word that has its origins in the Greek words abax or abakon (meaning "table" or "tablet") which in turn, possibly originated from the Semitic word abq, meaning "sand". The abacus is an instrument, a manual tool invented by the Chinese 2000 years ago. Over the past five years, in nations like Malaysia, Taiwan and India, countless tutoring centers like Sylvan, Huntington and Kumon have sprung up but with one goal in mind, tutor abacus math. Most of these centers offer training using the Japanese "Soroban abacus", which has one upper row of beads and four lower rows. The Soroban abacus is particularly effective for teaching mathematical calculating skills to young children.

Mental Math Practice Worksheets

Using an abacus, a child can do all arithmetic calculations up to 10 digits and master the skill of doing it mentally, without relying on modern devices such as calculators.

There are procedures and training methodologies to master abacus use. When children use both hands to move the beads for small and large arithmetic calculations, the quick communication between hands and brain not only stimulates brain cells promoting speedier and faster calculation ability but also promotes quick, balanced and whole brain development.

Now that you know what are all the benefits of learning abacus math - let us continue talking about practicing math. Every textbook comes with few practice problems and we always feel that these few problems are not enough. We want more practice problems for our children and students. The next best alternative is to find math practice worksheets. There are many websites that offer you download-able practice worksheets for a small fee. And there are some websites that offer you for free. Some offer you predefined sheets where as very few websites offer you build your own math practice worksheets.

Usage of math practice sheets early on can instill a great habit of enjoying math and at the same time help to solidify mental math skills. And using these sheets to perform abacus math mentally is absolute fun for a child.

Who Invented Football?

Football is a word that is confusing and entertaining and a sport that epitomized the pride of a nation and the strength of an athlete. In other places, football is a game known as soccer in America. Football in America is where the quarterback throws the ball to a receiver and everybody is running around the gridiron. And football in Europe and other parts of the world means soccer, where guys run around the field tossing a ball around their knees and head. Whew! That was confusing. So who really invented football?

AMERICA

The "Father of American Football", Walter C. Camp was a football coach and a sports writer and the one who invented football. His name became is legend in the American Football history. He took the rugby game to the next level and invented football. He borrowed term from the rugby game and applied it to football; in rugby, five guys lined-up and are called scrum; in football, he change the five guys to seven guys forming the offensive line, this is called the Line of Scrimmage. Get it? Scrum and scrimmage?

Who Invented Football?

CANADA

Some claims the football is truly a Canadian game and it was a Canadian who invented football. Invented by the replacement for British troops entering Quebec in the 1600's. Canadian Universities then introduced the game to American Colleges. It is said that by the time America first heard of football, Canada already has their professional football league of sorts.

CHINA

Some say that football was invented by Chinese a thousand years ago. The ancient Chinese were said to have kick a ball back and forth for exercise and amusement. It is said that the English only re-invented the sport after explorers visited this far away land. So was it really the Chinese who invented football?

ROMANS

They say it all started in Rome. Romans started playing football quite differently at that time, it is said that they originally toss and throw the pig's head around staking a claim on it. They found it fun and engaging thus it became a sport and thus it was them who invented football.

ENGLAND

It was the English who invented the football, or did they? It has been reported that forms of football were played as early as 1200 in England. As evidence, they pointed out a game seen played in ancient Greece, it is believed to be the predecessor of football. But this game is said to be forbade by The King Henry VI and by the 19th century, it was split into two games; the soccer and the rugby. And because American football evolved from the rugby, the English are basically staking a claim on both football sports.

8 Tips for At Home Entertaining and Menu Planning

Do you entertain at home? If you do, or if you want to, planning the menu can be the most challenging part. Here are 10 menu planning tips that I use when coordinating an at home dinner party.

Menu Planning Tip #1- Serve Good Food
Sounds obvious right? Providing good food for your dinner party guests is always my number one priority. Good food doesn't mean elaborate. Some of the best meals are simple ones that are well prepared and displayed attractively. Its better to provide a lot of simple food than to try to serve just a little bit of something expensive.

Menu Planning Tip #2-Serve what you know.
When you are planning your first few parties, prepare food that you know will turn out well. Now is not the time to experiment. Serve something you can have confidence in.

8 Tips for At Home Entertaining and Menu Planning

Menu Planning Tip #3- Branch out a little.
While it is fun to experiment with recipes, make sure you try out new dishes well in advance of your dinner party. The traditional chicken bread and side salad is great, but think ahead a little and try to figure out how you can add a little variety. You don't want to turn into a one trick pony! Add some Asian flavors to that chicken breast and serve it with simple noodles and miso vinaigrette.

Menu Planning Tip #4- Cook it the day before.
If possible, prepare something that gets better as it sits in the fridge. Beef burgundy or Classic Chili are great examples. Chicken Marbella get better with age too.

Menu Planning Tip #5-Check for allergies.
I know it can be annoying, but you're better safe than sorry. A quick poll of dinner guests is all it takes to verify that your menu can be enjoyed by everyone.

Menu Planning Tip #6-Fork Food
Especially for buffets and cocktail style parties, make sure your food can be easily eaten with a fork only. Don't serve anything that requires a steak knife or any other special utensils to eat.

Menu Planning Tip #7- Use the Food as decoration.
When you are planning your menu, try to imagine how the food will look on the table. Choose menu items that allow the allow the natural colors to shine. What you don't want is a menu of turkey, cauliflower and french bread. All white and bland looking. Imagine instead Cajun turkey, green beans with browned butter and pecans, red rice and cornbread. Can you imagine the colors? With a menu like that, fancy tablecloths and colored place mats are unnecessary,

Menu Planning Tip #8- Fire and Ice.
Simple but often overlooked tip is keep hot food hot and cold food cold. Plan in advance and make sure you have enough space in your fridge to keep cold items cold. You will also want to make sure you have ample stove top and oven space to keep things hot until the last minute. Make use of chafing dishes or crock pots if needed to keep your food at the proper temperatures.

How to Make Him Jealous? If You Can Get Him Jealous He Will Chase You As and When You Please

There are so many reasons why you want a guy to get jealous. It could be that he dumped you or you are jealous about something and you want him to feel the same thing, too. Any how, here are some tips you could use to make a guy jealous:

Talk about your ex boyfriend
Guys do not want their girlfriends to talk or brag about their ex boy friend. This gives them a sort of insecurity and leaves them thinking if you still have feelings for your former love. They have this certain attitude to want to be better than your last boyfriend.

Have more time with other stuff
Keep yourself busy with a lot of things. Do more overtimes at work or spend a lot of time doing a hobby or furthering a cause. Spending more time with other things means having less time to spend with your guy. It would really freak him out to know that you choose to spend more time with other stuff rather than being with him.

How to Make Him Jealous? If You Can Get Him Jealous He Will Chase You As and When You Please

Flirt with other guys
Try entertaining other guys or talking with other guys when you are together. This would really make him jealous and angry. It depends upon your motive, if you just want him to notice you, flirt subtly but if you're mad at him and you want him to go crazy then flirt openly leaving him unattended during your date.

Try dating other guys
If your boyfriend hurt you or worst, dumped you, care less. Try to date other guys instead and let him know that there are a lot of better guys around. If he sees you dating right away, this will make him think that you have moved on and was never hurt about what happened to the both of you.

Keep your male friends
Some guys get jealous with their girlfriend's male friends. Keep in touch with them and talk about your guy friends with your man. You will surely enjoy the look of envy on his face while hearing your stories about your guy friends.

Never be too available for him-ever
Try to refuse some of his invitations and tell him that you have other plans. Even if the invitation is so enticing, try hard to resist and make him jealous about your refusal. Keep him wondering what is it that you have planned that made you turn down a good offer.

Go out with friends
Find time with your friends and have fun and drink with them. Tell him that you will be going out with some friends and never mention to him who you are going out with. If he asks, just tell him that they are long time friends that you have not seen for a while.

Adult Halloween Party Games

Many adults will be gathering this Halloween to take part in spooky spectacular fun. If you are in the process of planning for a Halloween party that will be entertaining adults that you are close to, it is essential that you have a variety of exciting games for the occasion. Here, you will be introduced to some ideas for entertaining adult Halloween party games.

Musical Gravestones

Many adults are way past the whole "musical chairs" game; however many have fond memories of playing this game. If you are planning a Halloween party geared towards adults why not put a unique twist on the concept of musical chairs and create a game called musical gravestones? This works on the same type of theme as musical chairs, but it is a little more gruesome.

Adult Halloween Party Games

In order to play this game, you will need a number of straight back kitchen chairs. You will also be required to obtain a paper bag, some paints, fake webbing, and an assortment of Halloween decorations that can easily attach to the fake webbing. All you have to do is turn the bags upside down to where the opening is at the bottom and decorate the bag to resemble a tombstone. Once you are done decorating the bags, you will then place them over the back of the chair. You can then wrap the fake webbing all around the chair and implement the use of the miniature decorations that you have purchased.

Once you are ready to play the game, you must turn on some creepy Halloween music and the adults must go around the chairs. When the music stops, everyone must sit quickly on their "grave". Whoever is not sitting is out. You will be required to remove one chair each time you start the music. You may want to have a little bag of adult themed Halloween treats for the person that is named the winner.

Bobbing for Spiders

This is a spooky and scary game that adults from all walks of life can enjoy at your Halloween party. This game is quite similar to bobbing for apples, only you must bob for spiders. You will need to purchase the plastic or rubber spiders that are always lingering around on the Halloween aisle at Wal-Mart. These toys need to be at least three inches. Then, you want to look for the little plastic coffins that are usually on the same aisle. You will need one that is about three foot long at the minimum.

When it comes time to play this game, simply fill up the coffin with water. If you really want to be creative, you can fill it with slimy jell-o. Each of the adults must use only their mouths to attempt to gain control of one of the spiders. They each get only fifteen seconds to try this. If they fail, they must step to the side. The game will continue until all the spiders have been removed from the coffin. Those who retrieved a spider each get a bag of candy or numerous other treats. The person with the largest number of retrieved spiders should receive a larger gift for their success.

Conclusion

There are numerous entertaining adult Halloween party games. The two ideas that are listed here are just enough to provide hours of entertainment to the adults that attend your party. It is important to know that Halloween brings out the kid in all of us. You can use many games that children play and add a unique twist on them to appeal to adults. This is the key to success when it comes to entertaining Halloween party games.
